Biography
Steve Kaufmann, author of The Linguist and founder of www.thelinguist.com, shares his experiences in learning to speak 9 languages and on language learning in general.
I was born in Sweden but grew up in Montreal from the age of 5. I spent 3 years as a student in France, graduating from l'Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris in 1966. Seven years with the Canadian Diplomatic Service took me to Hong Kong, where I learned Mandarin, and Tokyo where I learned Japanese. Since 1974 I have been involved in the wood business, having established by own company, KP Wood Ltd. in 1987.
Three years ago I founded The Linguist, a web based language learning system. www.thelinguist.com.
Interests
language learning, history, old-timer's hockey, skiing, jogging and keeping fit, but mostly good food, good wine, good fellowship and the occasional pretty thing to look at.
